Technological Progress

Using the Wikipedia resources below, please respond to the following prompt in 2-3 well-written, grammatically correct paragraphs. :

We are living in a time of technological change, but this is not the first such period of innovation. In the past, people have had concerns about the effects of new technologies on society [Luddite article]. These concerns may be in the realms of Economics, Privacy, Interpersonal Relations, the Environment, Politics, among others. Choose a product/idea that has been introduced in the year 2000 or later and discuss 2-3 positive effects of the product, 2-3 negative aspects, and describe at least one earlier product/process (pre-1990) that it may make obsolete and why. You should be familiar with the 21st century product, and you should address why it is relevant and important . Save this document in your computer folder as technology_progress.

Independent project

When you are finished with all assigned projects, you may choose to do an independent project. You may use Flash, Fireworks or Dreamweaver. The FIRST step is to write a paragraph describing what you will be doing with very clear objectives. Following the paragraph, create a grading rubric- these items should reflect the objectives from your paragraph.

Fixing your folders.

I will check your folders for tidyness the week of December 10. All files in your folder should be named with understandable file names. You do not have to change the file name if it has spaces or capitals (although I would prefer that you not get in the habit of using either). Your file name should be somewhat like a title- descriptive and reflective of the content. It should not include your name or the first line of what you have written. If you have more than 10-15 files you should organize them into another folder. I will be checking ALL folders in your folder.

Making your webpage a website.

Open your index.html in Dreamweaver. There are 2 ways to do this. You can either open Dreamweaver and click file open or you can right click on the icon in your folder and choose Open with> Dreamweaver.
Click File>Save As.
Name your file something else sensible like links.html, my_family.html, flash.html
Make sure that you are in YOUR website folder and click save.
By doing this, you create webpages that look like your template page and have the potential to link to one another.
If you have content in other pages that do NOT look like your template page, you should copy and paste this text into the appropriate pages.
You may change certain features of your page- like the background color, or a particular graphic, but the all of the pages on your site should harmonize with one another according to MY STANDARDS.
Create links to your pages. You may either use text or graphics as links.

To use text: highlight the text that you want to have as a link. Look to the right hand portion of your properties window for the link box.

Type the name of your file, or click on the folder to the right and navigate to the proper folder.

To use a graphic: highlight the image that you want to have as a link. Look to the middle of your properties window for the link box.

Flash: Intro to your website * this assignment is worth double points

This week's assignment is to create a Flash intro movie that harmonizes with your index page. This assignment must include a tween or an effect. It may not use frame by frame animation exclusively.

There are 5 steps.

Step 1:
Import all needed images to your library. To do this:
1) In Flash, click on File>Import>Import to Library.
2) Navigate to your working folder. Make sure that file type indicated is .png.

3) Click on the file that you want to use and then click on Open.
4) Choose the following settings from the dialogue box.

Step 2: Create in Flash any other images that you would like to use. If you are going to use Motion Tweens make sure that you Convert to Symbol any graphics before you add tween.

Step 3: Create a visually interesting movie. Experiment with motion and shape tweens, and effects. Effects can be accessed by right clicking on a graphic. Choose timeline effects. Experiment with transform/transition, effects, and assistants. To use these timeline effects you only need a keyframe, you do not need to create a motion or shape tween separately.

Step 4: Insert a stop action on your final frame. Create a button. Your button will link to your index page. Save this document as intro in your website folder.

Step 5: Publish your movie. Click on File > Publish Settings. Make sure that .swf and .html are checked. Click on File> Publish. This creates a .html file of your Flash movie.
