Peabody School is pleased to announce the inception of a new parent organization called the Peabody Parent Alliance, or PPA. The PPA is composed of all Peabody School parents, with a mission as follows:
The Peabody Parent Alliance supports students, parents, and teachers by fostering open communication and a sense of community. The PPA encourages each member of the Peabody family to become involved in his or her own way to benefit our children and to help the school fully realize its mission.
Specifically, the PPA hopes to accomplish the following goals:
- Coordinate the parent volunteer force
- Support school-wide fundraising activities
- Serve as a forum for parent and staff communication
- Provide representation on the school-wide goals team
- Coordinate teacher support activities
- Support educational, social and emotional enrichment for student
Please consider attending PPA meetings, times announced in upcoming Friday Newsletters. If you have suggestions for discussion topics, would like to take on a leadership role in the PPA, or have any other ideas for this fledgling organization, please contact Lisa Martin at 293.3793 or lisahmartin@juno.com. |

Peabody supports a number of different athletic & academic after school activities.
Peabody School’s After School Program is a service provided to families of children enrolled in the school. The After School Program’s purpose is to provide a safe and pleasant environment for Peabody School students whose parents require that they have care beyond the school day.The After School Program includes, but is not limited to, the following activities:
time for the children to eat the snack they have brought from home;
outdoor play for at least thirty minutes, except in inclement weather; and opportunities for free choice activities that include:
- computer
- reading
- art/craft activities
- games and puzzles
- listening to music
- playing sports
The program operates from 3:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. on all days that Peabody School is in session unless prior notification is provided or in the case of severe weather. Students whose parents would like them to attend the AfterSchool Program on any given day may sign them up in advance, or they may call the school prior to 3:00 p.m. that day to request that their child be sent to the After School Program. In addition, any child who has not been picked up by 3:15 p.m. will be sent to the After School Program to await pick-up. In order to enroll a child in the After School Program, the child’s parent or guardian must complete an After School Program Enrollment Agreement and pay the enrollment fee.Parents are charged the full daily rate for each day the child attends the program regardless of what time the child is picked up after 3:15 p.m. and prior to the 5:30 p.m. closing time.
Students can do their homework in a quiet, teacher-supervised setting Mondays through Thursday.
Lower School students can participate in Afterschool Chorus Mondays and Wednesdays. |

We usually go by what the Charlottesville City Schools do, so a determination is rarely made before they decide. Please call our school’s information line (817-SNOW) (817-7669) after 6 a.m. for the latest information.

The world is an exciting place for children. They greet each day with wonder and curiosity. While all children learn an enormous amount during their elementary school years, there are some children whose understanding of the world reflects advanced intellectual development. They may have intense interests, learn easily, demonstrate unusual persistence, understand abstract concepts, or exhibit advanced reasoning skills. A traditional school program may not challenge these students. Some pupils may become bored, develop a negative attitude toward school, experience social problems, or exhibit signs of underachievement. There is a wealth of research indicating that intellectually advanced children benefit from enrollment in an educational program that recognizes and responds to their unique needs.
Peabody School is dedicated to providing a stimulating environment that promotes the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of intellectually advanced children. The academic program has been specifically designed to provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences that will engage each child at his or her own level, stimulate creative thinking, promote independence, and encourage each child to develop at a rate commensurate with his or her ability. |
