Peabody School is a private, independent school that fosters a community of learners through high-level thinking and individual growth.  At Peabody, we offer a rich and challenging curriculum that allows teachers and students to form partnerships to nurture learning and to explore curiosity.  We are committed to providing an educational experience that cultivates independent thought and deeper understanding through true intellectual exploration.  

The essence of Peabody is captured in its mission and philosophy.  This mission and this philosophy, in combination with a dynamic student, teacher, and parent population, work together to create a stimulating environment that is conducive to success.  Serving the area of Charlottesville, Virginia, and the surrounding counties of central Virginia, we invite you to come and discover for yourself the difference it makes when "education is not filling the pail, it is lighting the fire" (William Butler Yeats).

Peabody School's mission is to provide an enriched educational environment that engages each child at his or her own level while promoting academic and social/emotional development at a rate commensurate with his or her ability.

Philosophy

Intellectually advanced students possess unique cognitive, social, and emotional needs that may require a learning environment designed specifically for their learning characteristics. The most effective educational experience for many highly able learners is in a full-time program with their intellectual peers. led by highly competent teachers who utilize curricular activities and instruction specially tailored to meet students' learning needs.
